Being blind to color and culture is not the solution, talking about it and acknowledging it is. Team Bigger Than Us aims to bring awareness to how people perceive each other and was made in a response towards current events. Yeab Kebede and Sabrina Kwong conducted interviews after sending out a survey and collecting data. Hence this project serves as a qualitative research-driven video art piece compiled through surveys on the theme of cultural awareness and fighting against racism. Kebede was in charge of in creating illustrations of those interviewed and Kwong was in control of directing the video production. Join us, towards conversations bigger than us.

Ye'ab Kebede

Born and raised in a country which embraces the dynamic of colors, patterns and magical folk stories, I am subconsciously attracted to colorful textiles and patterns. As a young child walking through the streets of Ethiopia, I remember that the colors not only had a life of their own but had a distinct smell. As a multi-medium artist I am inspired by my early on relationship with colors and patterns in addition to life itself. I use a wide array of means from traditional painting and drawing to more moderns was like illustration, video, photography and digital media art.
